I've made a communal set of tools for straightening the pressed beaded edge of the floor/legshields which over the years can take a battering. The basic premise being if a member wants to use them, they pay the postage to the current holder and then once used, keep them on a shelf until the next member is in need. Requests and the current trustee can be tracked via this thread.
A few ground rules to make this work, it doesn't really need to be said but PLEASE
1. Don't nick them
2. Don't lend them, they're not yours to give to mates who go off on holiday.
3. Only request them if you have a pressing need, wait until your scooter is back from the sandblasters etc. Sitting on the tools for a month before you've even stripped the bugger defies the point of sharing.
4. Don't break them. I don't know how, I guess the mole grips aren't snap-on quality so don't be throwing them against the wall.
5. Only members with faces need apply. By this I mean if you've got a post count of 3 and no one established round here to vouch that you're a good egg, don't even bother asking. If you contribute to this forum then you get to borrow, that simple.
6. Try to post promptly. I know we're all busy but sending them on quick is good karma. If once you're finished this reponsibility is overwhelming, feel free to send them back to me (or the moderators possibly?)
7.Don't put your knob in them, stick them up your arse, feed them to the pit bull, let the kids play with them etc. myself and the forum are not responsible for your stupidity!
So here's what there is -
A short pair of mole grips, a long set and a dolly for correcting the curve transition from floor to leggies. The pictures are fairly self explanatory, the beading corrects fairly easily so don't go bananas. The dolly has an arrow engraved which points towards the headset, use a light-ish hammer to tap it true. Move the mole grips around the beading giving it a couple of squeezes and lifts depending on how it's bent out of line.
Any questions or input welcome guys... Please note these tools were not my great idea but that of Bob Darnell and Bob Golfen who wrote the book 'how to restore and maintain your Vespa motor scooter'
