So while I wait for another piston ring to turn up, thought I'd have a look at the front hub/brake. I'm doing something wrong here - any ideas ? [a href=" "] [/a] Shiny dust cover - how does this actually fix so it dosent move - Haynes dosent really show. [a href=" "] [/a] Brake shoes fitted. [a href=" "] [/a] When I fit the hub + washer + nut it just clamps the whole lot together and dosent spin. What am I missing here ? Thanks.

Been having a fettle with the hub today but no luck.
Think my assumption that the Motovespa front hub is the same as a Sprint/150 Super etc needs checking brfore I go any further.

What is the chrome deal? Is it for dress? Try tightening the nut without it and see what happens. If its a dress piece, you may need to remove the old piece first?

Regarding the chrome bit, on one of your other pics it shows 4 holes, u may have too drill holes in it

Thanks for the replies gents.
Went down to Allstyles and did a compare on the hubs.
The Sprint hub is ever so slightly thinner than the Motovespa one so thats solved that one.
Yep Steve - gonna drill the dust cover to fit - it just clips in on the original Motovespa swingarm - but not on the replacement Sprint one I've fitted.

New piston ring arrived, fitted it the correct way round this time and made sure the piston was also the correct way round. It has a very slight cut out on the skirt which matches up to the port in the cylinder. [a href=" "] [/a] This is the port in the cylnder - I think the carb eventually goes on here. There are two paper gaskets and a plastic bakerlite packer here and then the metal manifold. [a href=" "] [/a] [a href=" "] [/a] Trying to work out how this fits and sort out the timing - the following shows my guess at it, could all be wrong of course. Femsa Flywheel - has a little hole in it. [a href=" "] [/a] As does the old Femsa donut. [a href=" "] [/a] And the replacement Levistronic donut. [a href=" "] [/a] So I'm guessing these line up somehow. Fitted the new donut just to get a feel for how it goes on. Don't think its right. [a href=" "] [/a] Removed it to have a look and missed this hole so I'm guessing this is where the wires are supposed to go. [a href=" "] [/a] Looks better - plus the donut only fits on this way due to the spacing of the slots. [a href=" "] [/a] So looking for something that might be a timing mark on the cases and found a line above the arrow that is in the approx area of the hole in the donut. [a href=" "] [/a] But the hole and this mark won't quite line up - the slots in the donut don't have enough travel to allow them to line up. So back to finding top dead centre and making a mark. This engine has a BDTC of 22 degrees - made a mark. [a href=" "] [/a] Checked this with the old Femsa donut and although I cant rely entirely on it, when I lined the hole up with the mark I made for 22 degrees I could see the marks in the slots where it fixes to the case lined up exacty with the holes in the case. [a href=" "] [/a] So refitted the new donut in the same place. [a href=" "] [/a] Flywheel on - but can't tighten it up enough at the moment, I'll have to work something out. [a href=" "] [/a]

Progress has slowed a little because the Primmy has been demanding more attention MOT etc. Anyway got the clutch rebuilt new springs, plates, corks, took some fiddling - so many bits ! [a href=" "] [/a] [a href=" "] [/a] Now the tricky bit I think. Thought it would be an idea to see if this thing will fire up before I go any further, so stripped down the carb and rebuilt it - you can't buy these carbs anymore. Seem to have good compression - makes all the right sucking and blowing noises when turned over. [a href=" "] [/a] Next was trying to work out the electrics and what follows is my interpretation of all the Spanish websites I've been playing google translate with. The donut has 6 wires coming out of it, 2 brown and 1 black which connects up to the high coil, and 1 green, yellow and red which is the low coil for lights, horn etc. [a href=" "] [/a] Its the high coil I'm struggling with. Now the old Femsa high coil also has 2 brown and 1 black which just connects up like for like but the replacement Levistronic high coil has 1 brown, 1 blue and 1 black. The donut is also a replacement Levistronic part so I'd have thought they'd be wired the same. Femsa on left, Levistronic on right. [a href=" "] [/a] So I think I've read that the blue wire just connects up to any one of the brown wires - tried this and also earthed the high coil but cant get any spark or reading on a multimeter from the HT lead. Do you think I should be able to or have I missed something ? I get good readings from the 3 low coil wires red, yellow, green. I get a good reading between the 2 brown wires coming from the donut but a weak reading from the black wire. I might just revisit the timing - see if that changes anything, other than that I'm stuck.

Bit of a fettle today - donut stator wasn't quite seated correctly, checked it had a good earth and now got spark, woop.

Hi Jacko. A fairly rare scoot you have there.Judging by the bright blue paint inside the tank this was the first model 160 electronic. Only available in this colours from 1968 to 1972ish Then they added rally style stripes and added brighter colours gold red orange. The sccots were then rebadged as 160GT but remained the same engine wise. P200 motors fit straight into 150 Sprint & 160 frames.

Hi Adrian.
Thanks for the info - confirmed what I thought regarding the colour but I'm thinking of maybe painting it in the orange used on the 160GT. I'm still looking to use the original motor but the old carb is shot - looks like its a common problem with cross threading where the main jet is housed. I've seen a nozzle for sale in Spain that connects to the barrel that allows you to convert to a PX125 carb - so I'm going to give that a go.
Cheers.
Edit - persevering with the original carb - seem to have convinced it to stay tight enough for now.

So dry build going slowly, couldn't get the engine to start on the bench. Put it in the frame and it fires up for a few seconds - got a large leak at the head so need to look at that but it is encouraging. Can't work out if a head gasket is needed - seems to be one in the gasket set unless I'm confusing it with something else. Its thicker than a normal gasket - not sure what its made of but the Spanish parts manual I downloaded doesn't show one. [a href=" "] [/a]
