Is this yours Daz.... i had a good look around it in the Brid rally custom show.... One of the forum members on here has had his T5 done on the theme of and old English flying ace that shot down loads of Gerry`s.. Its a full Dave Dickenson jobbie, so it should be coming to a custom show soon........ The pair would look good displayed together..

I got into a heated discussion on the 70th anniversary of the battle of britain a year or so ago, the argument was over the best fighter pilot. The best spitfire pilot was Johnny Johnson who was Canadian, so i googled the best fighter pilot of all time and his name was Erich Hartmann a Me109G luftwaffe pilot with 352 kills, he crash landed his Me109 14 times but never due to enemy fire, ie mechanical failure or parts flying off the planes he was shooting down. A tribute worth doing I think, but not everyones cup of tea

Is there a reason that there are swastikas around the bike? If I saw that, I'd smash the shit out of it. Just trying to understand the theme.
Chalk it up to being a dumb yank if I'm being daft.

The theme is a replica of his Me-109G 1944 Its al part of history my friend Google his name Erich Hartmann, read his story then post your opinion, not forgetting the german soldiers under Hilter had to fight, if they refused they were shot.

Chalk it up to being a dumb yank if I'm being daft. Not necessarily. I wouldn't kick it in if I saw it - however I do sometimes struggle to comprehend or "get my head around" some of the themes of themed scoots. It is always possible to argue the reasons behind a choice such as this and it is also good not to forget the times in which these people lived (and more often died). Should a talent that results in needless death be celebrated? - questionable. The two major wars at the start of the 20th century, really were examples of the human race at its absolute worst. Shameful thing is that we appear not to have learnt a great deal from it all. I do think however that the possibility of causing offence/upset to some, even if it is not intended at all, is best avoided. There are not many people surviving from these days but as an acid test, you would have to ask yourself, "would I want to ride this scoot within a mile of Pall Mall on November 11th?" most probably not. The other controversial scoot I really did not understand was the "Agent Orange" smallframe of a year or two ago, not a popular choice for a Top Gear style roadtrip through Cambodia & Vietnam. That was defended at the time as representing historical facts but I found the arguments in its favour to be very flimsy. I'm thinking of updating the themed scooter scene by doing a Bashar al-Assad 50 Special - contemporary, controversial, he is most probably the best tyrant there is now that Hussein and Gadaffi have gone. Is that a cause for celebration? - undoubtedly not. I'd really like to see a Mahatma Ghandi themed scoot - now that would be something. Can't knock the quality of the work that has gone into it & each to their own and all that.

What about the Tony Hadley Cento??? Lovely Lammy that. Now that really IS deeply offensive! ;D I kind of agree with Tom Swallow on this one. I'm guessing the pics on the legshield and toolbox are there for historical accuracy, but... It's right that Germany should honour its war heroes; their guilt and shame is deeply poignant, approaching 75 years after the fact. They weren't fighting a just war, but I suspect, like the allies, fighting merely to survive, and to refuse would have meant certain death. However, a machine on this theme would never be built in Germany. The swastika is an emotive emblem and personally I would have left it off; bugger the authenticity. It's bound to spark a debate, which is right and proper.

Thanks for all the comments, it is controversial but the theme is the No1 fighter pilot of all time, I didn't know who this was until I researched it over 18 months ago, I wonder if it would caused any offense if this person was a Spitfire pilot, or yank in P51 mustang or even a Japanese Zero pilot, it is however to replicate the Messerschmitt ME109G, tribute to the pilot is on the glove box door, as for the swastika, this goes back centuries, even the romans used it. Thanks for the feed back it is a marmite scooter, and also the suggestions for my next project

Here a little history for ya'll: Until the Nazis used this symbol, the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck.

Wasn't it the other way around though, and Hitler 'flipped it' I believe that was the case with the Indian symbol. Still, when you combine it with an eagle and the luftwaffe any protestations it's a symbol of peace don't hold much water...

It maybe contoversial... But dazz is focussing on the life of a guy who probably wasnt a nazi at all. He isnt glorifying what the swastika stood/stands for.
Maybe.... just maybe he could of left it off... But it was his choice and he is in no way gloryfying nazi-ism in my mind.
